Pageants
Beauty pageants are a worldwide phenomenon with a unique niche carved out in American culture. Beauty pageants are preceded by months of preparation, time and money spent. Contestants gear up with the help of parents and family members as well as specialized coaches, many of whom are or have been involved in the pageant circuit themselves for years. How to walk, talk, dress, and present in these contests is a careful amalgamation of traditions that I explored photographically. The multi generational aspect of these rituals was a focus of this project as well.
